FAQ for Make a Wish Alabama

Who is Make-a-Wish Alabama?

Make-A-Wish Alabama is a local, statewide charity that brings hope, strength and joy to critically-ill children in Alabama through the gift of a wish. It might be a trip to Disney World, a shopping spree or meeting a favorite celebrity, but whatever the wish, it is amazing to see the happiness that shines through these kids when the Make-A-Wish team does their magic. By donating to and shopping with America’s Thrift Stores, you will be a big part of that magic.

What will we see changed

Only what you see will change, the store signage, some store messaging, a change in the donation collection bins, the trucks and trailers but that is about all.

When is the transition happening?

On January 1, 2018, we will begin our partnership with Make-A-Wish-Alabama.

Where will it happen?

This is a state-wide event so every store and all the donation locations in the state of Alabama will be dedicated to the Make-A-Wish Alabama charity.  We are excited to support a single, local, state-wide charity together!

Why is ATS moving away from its roots in supporting an Alabama charity?

We aren’t! Our support is going to the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Alabama.  All of our contributions will help grant wishes to children in the state of Alabama.  Approximately 130 wishes are granted each year; however, there are about 300 Alabama children who are patiently waiting for their own special wish to come true. With our involvement, we will help to grow that number each year and give these wish kids their dream of a lifetime.  All ATS stores and donation centers in the state of Alabama will be supporting Make-A-Wish Alabama.

Who will my donations support in December when I want to donate to get the tax deduction?

Through December 31, all donations will support King’s Home.  This change will occur on January 1st , 2018,.  On your 2017 tax receipt, please indicate King’s Home (or Mission of Hope if in Mobile) as your donation recipient.

How can I help Make-A-Wish Alabama?

We think the best way to help is continuing to donate your lightly used household goods and clothing and shopping in an America’s Thrift Store location. It is because of what our donations create that we can give, and we want to do more and more each year.

I still have a question.

We know it’s hard to answer every question so to help make it easy for you, we offer you this email so you can submit your question and we respond back as a reply – questions@americasthrift.com
