Run a Successful Donation Drive
Determine the date, time and location for your donation drive. Contact local businesses or shopping centers, and explain the details of your donation drive. Depending on your place of employment, you may also be permitted to have the donation drive at your work.
Contact us and let us know when you’re drive will be. We will contact you to schedule a pick up immediately after your event. We will also help advertise for your event on our social channels.
Make a list of items that you are collecting. View our list of acceptable items as well as items we do not accept.
Help – Get your friends and family members involved in the organizational efforts. Explain the importance of the donation drive, and ask them to help you with advertising or volunteering at the event. Consider a contest between groups or teams to help create excitement.
Advertise – Begin advertising your event at least 2 weeks in advance. This will give those who want to donate time to collect their items. Create and print fliers for your donation drive. Include important info like:
- What you are collecting (link to What to Donate)
- The Ministry you are supporting
- Kings Home (Central Alabama)
- American Family Foundation (Georgia)
- Home of Grace (Mississippi)
- Mission of Hope (Mobile & South Alabama)
- Louisiana Teen Challenge (Louisiana)
- Teen Challenge Mid-South (Tennessee)
- Grace House (Birmingham, AL)
After you print the fliers, go to local businesses and ask if you can put it up in store windows. (Make sure you visit your nearest store location so we can help advertise your event as well!) If they don’t allow you to post the flier, they may allow you to leave a small stack on the cashier’s counter.
Advertise online through email, blogging and social networking sites. If you are a member of Facebook, you can create an online event and invite your friends, co-workers and family members to attend your donation drive. You can also contact your local newspaper and post an ad in the classifieds as well as Craigslist.
Once your Donation Drive is over, you’re done! We’ll take care of the rest and get all the items you worked hard to collect to our processing center.
Thank you for your interest in helping our ministry partners!
